Before you can drive in the Netherlands, you must pass your practical driving test. You can only do the practical test once you’ve passed the driving theory test. Your instructor will advise you when you’re ready to do the test and your instructor will tell you exactly what the examiner will be looking out for – and what your strengths and weaknesses are.

What will happen on the day of your driving test?

Your instructor will pick you up, usually around an hour before the test. This is personal, some people don’t want to ‘warm up’ and others want an extra driving lesson to calm their nerves and get any last minute advice. Don’t forget to bring all your required paperwork!

Your test will include:

  • An eyesight check
  • Special manoeuvres
  • An internal and external check of the car (for example: questions about brakes, tires, lights etc.)
  • A little bit of motorway
  • 30 and 50 kilometer zones
  • Driving (for around 35 minutes)

At the end of the test the examiner will inform you if you have passed or failed the driving test. The examiner will fill in a test report after evaluating your test.

After the test, your instructor will drive you back to your home, school etc.
